Overview
One of the first truly "new" Davion ‘Mechs in quite a while, the Vampire was designed with the rather ambitious intent to be one of the best medium-class machines in service. The final result of all the hard work was the Vampire, so-named because of its narrow head, and the "fanged" appearance created by the ER Medium Laser just under the cockpit. Workers at Johnston Industries quickly caught on to the idea, and reinforced the torso area around the shoulders with an additional half-ton of armor. Not only did this create an extremely hard shell around the XL engine and ammo bays, it also created the appearance of a cape's collar, further adding to the resemblance to the stereotypical Vampires of ancient myths. Though an entirely new chassis, the weapons mix of the machine was based heavily on the Wolverine and Vindicator BattleMechs fielded by House Kurita and House Liao. Engineers at Johnston Industries began work on duplicating the success of the two designs in early 3060, and finally reached a conclusion in mid 3062. The production line for the Vampire is slated to begin full production on January 1, 3063 if the factory's retooling is on schedule.
Capabilities
The Vampire attempts to combine the best of the Wolverine and the Vindicator. The excellent armor and the close range hitting power of the Wolverine are reflected in the Vampire's 11.5 tons of armor, and SRM-6 launcher. Its resemblance to the Vindicator is obvious in the ERPPC and Medium Laser that the machine carries.
One thing that neither machine had, however, was the blinding speed provided by the Vampire's GM 330 XL engine and six jump jets. Another new addition is the TAG laser that gives the machine the ability to call down devastating artillery strikes with pinpoint accuracy. Engineers at Johnston Industries hope that this advantage combined with the excellent weapons package will give Davion forces an advantage for a long time to come.

As of 1/1/3063, only the Prototype machine is in active service. It is currently assigned to the 5th Syrtis Fusiliers.
