Overview
     Design and notes in a noteputer found on a derelict ship deep in the periphery .... "During the campaign to liberate the Terran Hegemony many flaws were discovered in several of the fleets warships. While most of these flaws were not major, they were the reason several fleet engagements were lost. Once the campaign was over the Star League navy took inventory of what ships were left operational and drew up long term plans to rebuild the fleet. It was decided that several classes of ships would not be continued and others would be outright mothballed. Details were laid out for the ships that would eventually be in the Star League Navy, and the Sovereign would be its flagship."

Capabilities
     During the campaign to liberate Terra many battles were not decided in one engagement, but several protracted engagements. This was because of the need for ships to retire for more ammunition and repairs. Of the two it was ammunition bay limitations that was by far the worst problem. Many ships barely had enough ammunition for a single engagement, and often times used up all their primary weapon ammunition before the engagement was decided. The Star League had for to long relied on the massive firepower of the Naval Autocannons as the primary weapons in their largest capital ships, and they paid the price for that in the long campaign for Terra. While studying the battle ROM's of the many battles it became apparent that the McKenna Battleship was by far one of the best performing ships in the fleet. This was mainly because of the massive particle cannon batteries on its broadsides which allowed it to stay in the thick of battle longer. Unfortunately the McKenna Class of battleships, which was one of the better designs in the fleet, had taken serious losses. Of the ships that survived many had taken serious damage and were structurally weakened beyond repair. The Olympus design was to replace the McKenna and addressed the problem with ammunition hungry weapons.
     The Sovereign Class Battleships were to be the centerpiece of each fleet as command vessels. Designers decided to mount an astounding one hundred and twenty four Kreuss XX Heavy Naval Particle Cannons on the ship. This would ensure the ship had the firepower needed to stay in the fight as well as the range to damage any other warship that dared to engage her. Another forty Scarborough-30 Series Naval Autocannons were added as secondary armament to give the ship a deadly knockout punch. Since the navies of the other House Lords still relied on the massive naval autocannon batteries for the main weapon on their ships the Sovereign had a decisive advantage in range. The Sovereign would be able engage and moderately damage almost every warship currently in use before they could even return her fire.
     Before any of these great ships could be built General Kerensky made the decision to forever leave the Inner Sphere
