Overview
The Longeye was designed to provide Anti-Air capabilities to battalion level units and above. Engineers spent almost a year studying the Rifleman 'Mech to ensure this design was able to completely fulfill its mission. Only the true test of combat will allow this design to either shine, or become as unremarkable as the Rifleman did.

Capabilities
Engineers and designers made the decision to start on weaponry first with the Longeye. Two Armostrong Class-B ClusterGuns, one on each arm, would provide the primary armament. Four tons of ammo protected by CASE was provided for the guns to ensure the Longeye could sustain sufficient volumes of fire to ward off any attacking air units. Two Blazefire Sweetshot ER Large Lasers were also installed, again one in each arm, to give the design a set of long range weapons that were not ammo dependant, and guarantee the design could be used in extended operations.
Designers wanted to put the very best Anti-Air system available on the Longeye, and even after centuries of combat, that was the Garret D2j T&T system currently on the Rifleman. The designers and engineers spent almost eight months just to make sure the D2j worked perfectly. Unfortunately the Garret T-11A Comm System was not as much of a success. Engineers have not yet figured out why the system sometimes resets itself after the 'Mech is struck by multiple particle weapons. While not a large concern, it could leave the Longeye out of contact with lancemates during those crtical seconds it takes the system to come online again.

Battle History
The first production run of the Longeye is almost complete. One lance of Longeye's are currently being assigned to command lances of all BattleMech units. The second production run will complete this objective, with the third run being made available to mercenary units currently employed by the Federated Suns.

Variants
The only variant currently on the drawing boards removes the Armstrong ClusterGuns, Blazefire ER Large Lasers and two double heat sinks and replaces them with dual NAIS Rotary Autocannons, quad Blazefire ER Medium Lasers and a Streak SRM/4. While this variant runs hot, when it does open fire the targeting computer makes sure every shot counts!

Notable 'Mechs & MechWarriors

Leftenant Harris Grumen
Lft Grumen was the test pilots for the first prototype Longeye. Although simlations had proved very successful, the first time the Longeye was tried under actual battlefield conditions Lft Grumen was almost killed. Fighting a battle against two Stingray Aerospace Fighters, the Longeye was struck by both PPC's at the same time. This shorted out the entire electrical system, filling the cockpit with smoke and fire. Lft Grumen managed to eject from the stricken 'Mech, but not without serious burns on his exposed arms and legs. Engineers discovered the flaw in the communications system that allowed the short circuit and added dampners to prevent a repeat of the accident. By the time the engineers were done making the necessary modifications Lft Grumen was once again fit for combat and insisted on testing the Longeye again. The two tests could not have had more different results. When the two Stingrays made their first pass, Lft Grumen opened up with with both Armstrong and Blazefire guns. The battlefield computers listed the first Stingray as taking critical damage and spinning out of control before it could even complete its strafing run. The second Stingray completed its run, only to have the Longeye spin around and fill the retreating AeroFighters engine  compartment with cluster munitions, destroying it also. With only minor damage reported to the Longeye, the second test was a quick and decisive success. The newly christened "Six Shooter" thereafter completed all its tests and trials without futher incident. Ltf Grumen still tests designs with Kallon, and is reported to be testing a Anti-Air design that is more mobile and designed to be fielded with lighter 'Mech units.

Deployment
Loyal Davion units are the first to receive these 'Mechs and are planning to put them to good use destroying what little Lyran AeroSpace forces stand in their way.
