Overview
The Iroquois was suppose to be the fourth design in the series of 'Mechs released by Spirit Mountain Weaponries, but due to design problems with the Apache 'Mech, the Iroquois was completed before its lighter cousin. Designers choose to make the Iroquois a multi-purpose design, equally at home fighting in an urban environment or open terrain. The Iroquois is also the only one of the four designs to mount a hatchet. Davion MechWarriors in front line units are eager to get this design and begin showing Lyrans and Capellans just how a Assault BattleMech is built and used.

Capabilities
Designers had a very difficult job put in front of them. To make a 'Mech that was able to fight effectively in any environment, from urban nightmares to open death fields, would be difficult at best. Engineers started with the designs long range capabilities. Mounting a Poland Model C Gauss Rifle on the right arm and a Blazefire Sweetshot ER Large Laser in the center torso would allow the Iroquois to soften up enemy opponents at extreme range. Next the Iroquois was equipped with the new NAIS Type 2b Rotary Autocannon for medium range work. This weapon would allow the MechWarrior to exploit and widen any armor breaches made by the designs devastating long range arsenal. The variable firing rate of the RAC/5 would also allow the pilot to conserve ammo until that critical moment when a crippling blow could be delivered by using the cannon at its maximum rate of fire. A Blazefire Longshot ER Medium Laser was also installed to give the design a little extra punch at medium range. For short range the Iroquois was given three ChisComp 39 Medium Lasers. While some critics think the design should use the most modern weaponry available, the inclusion of these tried and tested weapons is a sound choice. Their ease of maintainence and reliable performance can only improve this designs reliability. Defensively the Iroquois was given a McArthur Anti-Missile System, allowing the design to protect itself from the enemy's long range fire. Also included was the Apple Churchill ECM. The Iroquois is one of the few assault class 'Mechs to carry an ECM, which makes this design a valuable member of any assault lance it is assigned too. The inclusion of the Hatchet on the Iroquois would allow the design one final line of defense if enemy units were able to get too close in open terrain, and a devastating close assault weapon for urban or mountainous terrain.

Battle History
The Iroquois recieved its baptism of fire immediately upon its introduction. The Davion Assault Guards used this design to good effect  repelling a Liao attempt to sieze the world of Tigress. Lead by Laurels Legion and assisted by the Red Lancers and supporting regiments, Liao forces landed and immediately set out to capture the heavily industrialized city of Four Cities. The Assault Guards moved to cut off the attackers and left two lances of 'Mechs as the rear guard in Four Cities, which included both the Iroquois 'Mechs. When a Liao heavy company of 'Mechs with supporting vehicles approached, the two lances met the attackers on the outskirts of the complex. Both Iroquois 'Mechs used their long range firepower to good effect, disabling three tanks and one enemy Thunder 'Mech before retreating into the city. The
ensuing battle ended with a Iroquios using its hatchet to slice through the rear armor of a Yu Huang, destroying its gyro. Only the two battered Iroquois and a barely functioning Titan BattleMech were left standing when the battle for the complex was over. The remaining units of the Assault Guards were able to force the attackers to retreat when the Assault Guards 3rd Federation Armor Regiment found the Liao dropships and threatened to destroy them. The retreating Liao forces were able to leave the planet, but without half of their supporting regiments and minus four companies of 'Mechs.

Variants
The only known variant of the Iroquois does not included the hatchet. Only about a dozen of these were made before the design was re-engineered to add the hatchet.

Notable 'Mechs & MechWarriors

Leftenant Gregory Hill
Assigned to the Assault Guards at the time of the Liao invasion of Tigress, MechWarrior Hill was credited with four vehicle kills and two Mech kills from the action in Four Cities Industrial Complex. Hill used the firepower and hatchet of his 'Mech, Scalp Hunter, to destroy or incapacitate enemy units before they could even call for help. After the action on Tigress MW Hill was promoted to Leftenant and given command of a lance in the Assault Guards.

Deployment
The few Iroquois that have been produced have been assigned to units along the Capellan Confederation border and units stationed near the Chaos March. With the stinging defeat the Iroquois dealt the Confederation on Tigress, this design should deter further Liao adventurism along the border.
